Continental Jointer Wood Plane. Ref 203. £75.00.
Probably originally from France or Low Countries, an unusually narrow for a jointer plane.
Replacement blade.
Artisan made and engraved, possibly earlier than the date 1834.
Many continental planes were individually made by the owner, not being produced by planemakers.
Note: Centuries ago skilled carpenters, and masons, were employed in the building of Cathedrals. They were not simply workers but devout worshipers expressing their beliefs through the decoration of their tools. IHS is the monogram that represents Jesus, in Greek “Iesus Hominum Salvator” this symbol is often found included.
